Facilitation of Latvian film and film culture development, accessibility of Latvian film culture in Latvia, promotion of Latvian film abroad, participation at international film events, international film funding bodies and policy organizations.

Do you already have programs/tools/agreements with other partners/regions/countries to support the visibility and ezchange of your films?

Cooperation agreement with Baltic Film centers and institutes – National Film Centre of Latvia, Estonian Film Institute, and Lithuanian Film Centre - is the platform for cooperation, co-productions between Baltic countries, as well organizing different projects (workshops, film screenings etc.).

Film literacy initiatives:

The National Film Centre of Latvia in collaboration with the National Centre for Education have developed a new project entitled “Film in Schools/ Kino Skolās”, which aims to promote accessibility and knowledge of Latvian films through a comprehensive academic learning process. “Film in Schools” provides teachers with suggested teaching methods, a textbook (112 pages), as well as the opportunity to access Latvian films through an online platform at www.filmas.lv

Do you think that you have tools/programs that can support the goals of our working groups?

Two cash-rebate schemes: on national level - operated by NFC, and Riga Film Fund which offers possibilities of cooperation in the film service as well as slot for co-productions.

We do not have subsidies for distributors of European films and subtitles yet. (Might be discussed and planned in the future.)

As for the proposal promoted by the basque government basque audiovisual fund to set up a forum and a circuit of spaces and contacts to support placing films and professionals in smaller languages or european countries, ehat are your specific proposals?

To define the goals and to sign the agreement between countries (with limited market and language area) - Film centers, Film institutes of these countries. This might be the starting point for creating the strategy and finding financial resources.
